A Chopper is a sapient, sub-sapient, or sentient being who uses non-standard means in utilizing computing and computer network systems, accessing data systems, data networks, security systems and security networks. This can be either a sanctioned or unsanctioned (criminal) activity and is usually associated with the subculture of coding and coders. Choppers can be both hobbyists or professionals.


The term comes from the cultural idea that a Chopper has to "chop" into the code and alter its functionality in some way. The term first arose from the subculture of Pexyll.


The act of Chopping, can include hardware, software or wetware.
